The Manchester CICADA club was the concept of Professor Ramsden, founded in September 1993 with the aim of establishing links between those who have received cochlear implants and the team itself, and to encourage maximum implant usage through a calendar of social events and activities, for example - the annual Christmas Party, the May Lawn Bowls and other popular events. The AGM, each spring, gives members the opportunity to participate in the club’s business as ordinary or committee members. In most cases it is generally accepted, especially for those with the latest technology, that the more the implant is used the better it gets, and therefore we want to encourage new members to meet the challenges of social interaction amongst friends as early as possible. CICADA also aims to keep its members up to date with the latest developments in equipment and strategies. This may be achieved through invited speakers to our meetings; through the Implant Programme newsletter RESOUND, and the newsletter of the NCIUA (National Cochlear Implant Users Association). Some CICADA members may live some distance from Manchester and may therefore feel unable to attend some of our meetings and events. In such cases we will do our best to arrange lifts with other members. Non-attending members will be kept up to date through RESOUND and, in the case of club members only through CICADA NEWS. Some information may be available by email if your email address is known to us.
